GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  Women’s History Month is celebrated each year in the month of March.  The 2023 National Women’s History Alliance observance theme can be found at http:(slash)(slash)www.defenseculture.mil/Human-Relations-Toolkit/Special-Observances/#womens-history-month.
2.  In 1980, President Carter issued the first presidential proclamation declaring 2-8 March as National Women’s History Week.  The following year, Congress passed a joint resolution (Public Law 97-28) which authorized, and requested the President proclaim, the week beginning March 7, 1982 as Women’s History Week. Throughout the next five years, Congress continued to pass joint resolutions designating a week in March as Women’s History Week.  In 1987, after the National Women’s History Project successfully petitioned Congress, President Reagan signed Public Law 100-9 designating the month of March 1987 as Women’s History Month.  Since then, Presidents have issued proclamations, executive orders, and other guiding statements on Women’s History Month to honor the achievements of women in the United States.
3.  Master Gunnery Sergeant Paulette Lora is the first female Master Gunnery Sergeant in the Military Occupational Specialty 3051 - Supply Inventory Management Specialist.  Master Gunnery Sergeant Lora was born in Stamps, Arkansas.  She enlisted on 19 February 1997 and attended boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina.  Master Gunnery Sergeant Lora has served successfully in key billets to include:  Noncommissioned Officer-In-Charge of the Corporals’ Course and Chief Instructor, Supply Chief, Staff Noncommissioned Officer-In-Charge, Company First Sergeant, and Battalion Operations Chief.  In August 2019, Master Gunnery Sergeant Lora reported to Marine Corps Installations Pacific, Marine Corps Base, Camp Butler, Okinawa, Japan where she served as the Base Warehouse Chief.  On 1 November 2022, Master Gunnery Sergeant Lora was promoted to her current rank.  Master Gunnery Sergeant Lora currently serves in 2d Supply Battalion, 2d Marine Logistics Group, Supply Management Unit as the Storage Operations Staff Noncommissioned Officer-In-Charge.  Master Gunnery Sergeant Lora has positively influenced and inspired many Marines throughout her career.  “The rank of Master Gunnery Sergeant is not easy to obtain, but with hard work, sacrifice, and commitment, the goal is achievable.  It is truly humbling to be the first female Master Gunnery Sergeant in my MOS, and I am hoping to inspire all ranks across the Marine Corps, especially the female Marines” said Master Gunnery Sergeant Lora.
4.  As a Service, we seek to take full advantage of the talents, strengths, skills, and perspectives of every Marine.  Our talent management system supports this imperative to maximize warfighting effectiveness and in prioritizing diversity of thought, fostering inclusivity, and implementing policies that ensure equity across the force.  During this observance month, commanders are encouraged to recognize and celebrate the invaluable service and selfless contributions of women – military, veteran, and civilian - to our country and Corps.  Commanders are further encouraged to conduct programs and promote participation in observance events within their commands and across their local communities.
5.  Release authorized by Lieutenant General, James F. Glynn, Deputy Commandant for Manpower and Reserves Affairs.//

Our Staff

Our Board of Directors come from a variety of backgrounds, but one thing unites them all, a passion for preserving and perpetuating the history of the United States Marine Corps. Many who serve on our Board have a strong connection with the Marine Corps Recruit Depot having drilled on the grinder, been stationed aboard the Depot, or felt the local impact of Marines in San Diego.
